RAINFOREST CUBS

BACKGROUND

Get Involved - Help Please
Please do join in and assist a minimum of one evening this term for the safe and smooth running of these events. Kindly advise by returning the sheet you will have received ASAP, which Meetings you will be able to assist and we will be in touch to confirm which Meetings you have been allocated. Many thanks for your support for the benefit of all our children.
Parking/Lifts
Please avoid parking/dropping off in the area immediately in front of the scout hut. We are often heavy laden when we arrive at cubs and it would be helpful to be able to park directly in front of the hut. Thank you.
Also, may we request that Cubs arrive just a few minutes before 6:30pm and not any earlier. We quite often need time to set up but get distracted if we have Cubs to keep an eye on!

E-mail
Please advise of any changes to your email and/or mobile number(s) to chris850t5@hotmail.com. Don’t forget to check your email regularly!! Thanks.
Lifts for 7 March – Aircraft Museum visit - is a trip starting & finishing at HQ and drivers will be required to make this happen (journey 15/20 mins each way), please see if you can club together with other cubs you know to take a car full. Please let Nikkie know who you are able to take. Thank you.
The Cub Scout section is for boys and girls aged 8 to 10.5 years old and is as strong as ever as there is a constant inflow from the two Beaver Colonies. On 26th February 2010, the Group opened a second Cub Pack due to the growing popularity of Scouting in the village and thanks to the availability of new adult leaders. The Cub Scout Packs have named themselves after the habitats of wolf cubs. The Rainforest Pack meet on a Wednesday and the Jungle Pack on a Friday. Both Packs are very busy and the noise on meeting nights can only be young cubs having a great time.

Challenges

This term we will be completing the Air Activities Activity Badge and Global Challenge:

Challenges
Air Activities Activity Badge

To gain this badge, Cub Scouts must complete the following:
  1. Know the dangers involved in visiting an airfield.
  2. Visit an airfield, air display or air museum.
  3. Choose three of the following:
    1. Make and fly one of the following: a model aeroplane, three different types of paper glider, a hot-air balloon, or a kite.
    2. Identify six airlines from their markings.
    3. Name and identify the main parts of an aeroplane.
    4. Assemble a plastic scale model aeroplane to a reasonable standard.
    5. Name and identify the different types of aircraft (powered aeroplanes, airships, gliders etc).
    6. Fly in an aircraft and share their experience with the Pack.
    7. Explain how different weather conditions can affect air activities.
    8. Collect and identify six different pictures of aircraft and share them with other Cub Scouts.
Global Challenge

Cub Scouts should complete four of the following:
  1. Find out about the traditions, culture, food, religion and other interesting characteristics of a country different from your own.
  2. Find out about the work of an international charity that helps around the world (for example, OXFAM, UNICEF) and then present your findings to the rest of the Pack.
  3. Find out about an aspect of international Scouting. You could take part in a 'Join In Jamboree' activity, or arrange a visit from a Jamboree participant. Or you could find out about Scouting in a country of your choice.
  4. Find out about things that can be recycled or how energy can be saved. Over a period of weeks show how you have recycled or saved energy at home.
  5. Find out about a global issue such as poverty, conservation or water and sanitation, and what you can do to help.
  6. Find out about a technology of your choice. This could be a personal computer, a car engine, an aircraft or anything similar. You should understand the basic functions of the technology and how it is used and a brief history. You should then present your findings to the rest of the Pack.
