SCOUTS

BACKGROUND

The Scout section is the core section of the group, giving the Scouts training and experience's that are often not available in the world of the young person. There is a strong leadership team giving direction to the Scouts who compete at many events and get away to various parts of the country on their expeditions. The Scout Troop is for boys and girls aged 10.5 to 14 years old and meets on a Thursday. Follow the links for information about the troop activities.

12th January Eagles Games Evening. Full Uniform. Indoor Games. Subs of £38 due. Cheques payable to 1st Abbots Langley Scout Troop.
19th January Foxes No CW Annual Patrol Quiz. Full Uniform. Prizes and Scout of the Year points for the winners.
26th January Otters Incident Challenges. Full Uniform. Scouting activities on bases. Parent help required please.
2nd February No Flag Break Evening Hike. No uniform. Meet at Chipperfield Common (Two Brewers) and hike to Phasels Wood (see map). Parents pick up from Phasels Wood. Wear hiking boots and bring a torch and waterproofs. Parent help required please.
9th February No Flag Break Crematorium Visit. Full Uniform. Educational visit to Garston Crematorium. We have previously visited and it proved successful. The Scouts can sit out at any time during the visit if they feel uncomfortable. Parents welcome.
16th February   Half Term. No scout meeting
23rd February Stags Pancakes, Woggles & Investitures. Full Uniform. Investiture of new Scouts who started this term (Please obtain full uniform). Make pancakes & woggles. Deadline for £70 Deposit for Summer Camp .
24th – 26th February (Minibus)   District Scouting Skills Camp. Details to follow.
1st March Eagles Sustainability Talk & Games. Full Uniform. Environmental talk from external visitor as part of Global Challenge. PLEASE DO NOT MISS as this is part of the Gold Chief Scouts Award and will not be repeated. Indoor games.
8th March No Flag Break Treasure Hunt & 5-a-side Football. No Uniform. All meet at HQ. (a) Eagles & Foxes – 5-a-side football at Manor House grounds. (b) Otters & Stags – Treasure Hunt around the village.
10th March   District Swimming Gala. At Westminster Lodge, St Albans 6.30pm to 10.00pm. Details to follow.
11th March   County and District Triathlon Competition. Involves teams of 4 scouts and consists of running, cycling and air rifle shooting. Event at Lees Wood at 9.30am. Details to follow.
15th March No Flag Break Treasure Hunt & 5-a-side Football. No Uniform. All meet at HQ. (a) Eagles & Foxes – Treasure Hunt around the village. (b) Otters & Stags – 5-a-side football at Manor House grounds.
22nd March Foxes Games Evening & Jumble Leaflet Distribution. Full Uniform . Delivery of jumble sale leaflets followed by indoor games. Parent help required please.
29th March (Minibus) No Flag Break Jumble Collection. Full Uniform .  For Abbots Langley Scout Group jumble sale.
31st March   Jumble Sale. Scout parents are needed to help at one jumble sale per year. Parents of Eagles and Foxes will be required to assist on this occasion.
5th April   No Meeting. Scout meetings suspended for Easter holiday until 19th April. A programme will be circulated prior to this date.
  1. Georges Day Parade is on Sunday 15th April meeting at 2.15pm at the Harebreaks. Letter to follow.
  2. The prize for the ‘Top Ten Scouts of the Year’ Competition is a narrowboat weekend on 4th – 6th May 2012.
  3. The 2012 Summer Camp is to Beaver Lodge, Parkend in the Forest of Dean from Saturday 21st July to Saturday 28th July. A deposit of £70 is required by 23rd February latest. The overall cost of the camp will be £190. The 2nd instalment of £60 is payable on 3rd May and the final balance of £60 is payable on 21st June.
