Cappital Appeal Donate What's it all about?

At the heart of Scouting's balanced programme for children and young people aged between 6 and 25 is the outdoors, and the many activities that can take place there. Hertfordshire Scouts own or manage seven activity centres around the UK where young people can come and take part in a wide range of activities in safety.

Details of the activity centres are elsewhere on Hertfordshires website.

In recent years, the opportunity came up for us to purchase the freeholds of the two largest centres, Phasels Wood at Kings Langley, and Tolmers at Cuffley. We went ahead and bought them for around £1million, in order to protect their futures. As of July 2013, the appeal fund had reached £500K.

We must maintain these two plus our other 5 activity centre assets to keep them safe and in line with Health & Safety requirements. Customers needs change over the years and modernisation of buildings and maintenance of the woodland, grounds and fabric is needed. These items are never cheap! We also want the best facilities for young people.

Hence the reason for our Capital Appeal. Target £2 million.

Hertfordshire Scouts Activity Centres are available for all young people to use, provided they come with a recognised youth organisation, school or youth and community group which has a Safeguarding Policy as robust as that of The Scout Association.

Our customers include many diverse groups from major faiths, schools, and community groups. We regard our Centres as community facilities for all.
