The Scout section is the core section of the group, giving the Scouts training and experience's that are often not available in the world of the young person. There is a strong leadership team giving direction to the Scouts who compete at many events and get away to various parts of the country on their expeditions. The Scout Troop is for boys and girls aged 10.5 to 14 years old and meets on a Thursday. Follow the links for information about the troop activities.

Garston Fire Station Visit (Do not miss). Full Uniform. Meet at Asda Car Park. Part of Community Challenge for Gold Chief Scouts Award and the Fire Safety Activity Award. See attached letter.

Explorer Scouts Activity Evening. Full Uniform. Activity evening organised by Albbatross Explorer Scouts.

30th September

Fire Safety Award. Full Uniform. Visit from Fire Officer. Talk on fire safety as part of the Fire Safety Activity Award. This will also count towards the Community Challenge. See attached letter.

7th October

Jumble Leaflet Distribution & Completion of Fire Safety Award. Full Uniform. Deliver jumble leaflets followed by fire safety quiz to complete activity award. Parent help required please.

Jumble Collection. Full Uniform. Collecting jumble for the Abbots Langley Scout Group jumble sale. All Scouts are expected to support this fund raising activity. Parent help required please.

Jumble Sale. Scout parents are needed to help at one jumble sale per year. Parents of Otters & Stags will be required to assist on this occasion.

Investitures & PLs / APLs Evening. Full Uniform. Investitures of new Scouts (please obtain full Scout uniform). Evening planned, organised & run by PLs & APLs.

24th October

 

County and District Triathlon Competition. Involves teams of 3 scouts and consists of running, cycling and shooting. Event is at Lees Wood at 9.30am with probable finish at 1pm. Cost of £5 per Scout. Details to follow.

Remembrance Day Parade. Full uniform must be worn. Please make every effort to attend. 10.30am in the village centre.

Dump Hike & Green Beret Preparation. No Uniform. Scouts participating in the Green Beret will prepare equipment. Other Scouts will complete a hike. Wear hiking boots, warm clothes, waterproofs and bring a torch. Parent help required please.

19th – 21st November

Green Beret Challenge. County event at Phasels Wood involving teams of 6 scouts who participate in an assault course, orienteering, challenge incidents and a night exercise. Cost of £20 per scout to cover camping fees, food, etc. Friday evening to midday Sunday. Details to follow.

Christingle. Abbots Langley Scout Group Christmas Service at St Lawrence Church at 7pm. Full uniform must be worn. Please make every effort to attend and represent the Troop.

Art and Craft Evening. Full Uniform. Year 9 scouts to organise and run the evening as part of Promise Challenge towards their Gold Chief Scouts Award.

16th December

No Flag Break

Quasar Christmas Activity. No uniform. Meet at 6.55pm at HQ (we leave at 7pm on the dot). Quasar followed by fish and chip supper. A contribution of £5 per scout is required towards the cost. Parents help required to transport.

23rd December

 

No Meeting. Scout meetings suspended for Christmas holiday until 7th January. A programme will be circulated prior to this date.

1.  Subs of £37 per scout for the Autumn Term are now due. Please make your cheques payable to 1st Abbots Langley Scout Troop.
2.The 2011 Scout Summer Camp has been booked for Sunday 24th – 31st July at Tansley Wood, Matlock in the Peak District. A letter with details will be distributed later this term. Please keep the date free.
